Interview with DJ MICHAEL PRADO

Today we will get to know a bit better Michael Prado, a brazilian DJ that has been successful in the international scene, playing in the best places in Milan. Besides being involved in several projects related to fashion and the partnership with Philipp Plein. Before his Tour to Honk Kong, Beijing and Shanghai amd also involving an invitation to play at Provocateur Sao Paulo,The Dj and Music Producer reserved some minutes of his busy schedule to talk a bit about his trajectory and future projects.

What is your musical genre?

- I come with the base of progressive electro, that's what I like the most. It's my passion and my inspiration. I also have a passion for Deep House, since I like to play at brunches. And it's a type of music that you can just listen to without the need of dancing.

So are you working on a new track?

- Yes! I will soon launch my first track called "Puma", which refers to the sounds of 2011-2012. And of course it's all progressive electro.

Why "Puma"?

-Actually the name was a joke with my friend because he created a song called "Tiger" and I when I first started creating the track I wanted to use this name as well. But since he published his track first I couldn't use the same name. So I wanted to use an animal with speed, attitude and transmit what I see in myself. That's why I chose Puma.

And when is your track coming out?

- It's coming out soon! !

Since when do you play at Hollywood Milan?

Exactly 4 years ago when I worked as a model in Sao Paulo, Brazil and had a chance to come to Milan where I already worked with music. It was always my dream to play at Hollywood so the organizers from a party called Favela Chic requested me to play at their night and since then I never stopped to play there. I'm the first Brazilian in 22 years to be Resident DJ and they were the ones that opened the door for other opportunities. Thanks to Hollywood I also got the chance to play at Just Cavalli (same group) and also go the south of Italy.

You also play at bars like Baobar and Bond, how did these projects start?

- How can I say this? Baobar is like a small piece of my country in Milan. The bar has a energy that I haven't seen in other bars in Milan. I don't see anyone sad or unhappy there... everyone is just smiling and having fun. It's a huge pleasure for me to play there. Bond and Just Cavalli brunch are the only places where I can express my feelings towards progressive electro because I think Milan isn't very open for this kind of music.

How did you start mixing Music and Fashion?

- It started when I went to China where I suddenly got requests to play at fashion shows and thats when I identified myself and realized that everything is connected with music. To watch a movie or even make love without music, isn't the same. So I joined both of the worlds I like and I fell in love.
After coming back from China I  had meet Philipp Plein's team and got the chance to play at the parties after the show. But everything started when I did a set with Sarkozy Junior and basically after that they let me create the tracks and mix for the fashion show.

So talking about Philipp Plein's last Men Fashion Show that was very commented … What was the inspiration and how did you create the mix?

- The men's collection was based on a future war, with the idea of fashion soldiers. So we did researches and studies with the whole PP Designer team to find the perfect music for the war idea. I created something aggressive, a style called dubstep that is really in right now, with a mix of electro. I recorded the introduction with an american singer and we used the phrase that the stylist used to describe the collection : "We kill for love".

And what about the Women's show?

- The show was completely the opposite of the Men's show. The inspiration was a fairytale… It was incredible, with an amazing opening from Grace Jones and a whole production that cost about 800 thousand euros where they basically turned the Teatro Vetra into a forest.

Are there other plans for Michael Prado, other then your track "Puma"?

- Yes, a lot. Philipp Plein is doing a collection for Dj's with headphones, bags and exclusive t-shirts. They asked me to produce an album with 10 songs and go on tour to play at the Philipp Plein stores all over the world.
Also I will go to New York in august for an intensive production course.

Do you have any idols?
My idol is only God but in my area I admire Steve Angello (Swedish House Mafia). For his story, his music taste and also because he loves Brazil. When he plays, he gives me this energy that no any other Dj has ever given me.

From a Model to a Dj - did you go thru a lot of prejudices?

-Yes of course. But that's fine because I can show everyone what I'm able to do. I know how much I fighted and I know what I want to achieve in my life.

For someone that is starting now, do you have any tips?

- If you want to do something, then you have to do it right! The most important is that you have to have a good selection of music and something that people like. And not just do anything for the money or the fame. I also think when you do something with a touch of your own taste then people will like it more.

mepadi Shirt

SQUARED! The new must-have from NYC and BRLN. My friends created a brand called MEPADI, it's a shirt with a squared neck. Totally something new and I think it's awesome because the V necks and the round necks are sooooo normal. I got my white one already and I love it!
You can order the shirts online, they cost 60 euros and you can choose between grey and white. If you check their facebook page they sometimes also have great deals like "get 2 neck for a price of 1" :)

CHECK IT OUT AND FOLLOW THEM

mepadi stems from the radiant streets of New York City, a place that feeds its inspiration permanently, and provides a platform of opportunity upon which it acts.

Situated in an equally impressive city, Berlin serves as home base to the company, in order for its founders to be intertwined with modern trends in two distinctly international cities.

It’s the beauty and irony in our story that it was in New York City where four young Germans actively engaged in the Meatpacking district`s lure, came together to combine their ambitions in order to create a clothing line, as of yet unseen.

mepadi’s young culture gravitates towards modern innovations, that its motto “einzigartigeinfach” (uniquely simple) represents.

• uniquely SIMPLE: symbolizing a pureness that gleams in simplicity, and does not deflect from the wearer, but rather extenuates their appearance.

• UNIQUEly simple: Testifying to the quality of the goods, and the authentic process in which they are designed, as well as highlighting the individual traits of each wearer´s personality.

The Meatpacking district, which the company’s name is an abbreviation of, brought the German fashion-enthusiasts together, providing mepadi with the gift to shape the ideas, trends and tastes developing in the world, as well as the inspiration to continue creating unique products, among a wide range of people, cultures and generations, who, despite their differences, all share a special fondness for fashion, and a sense of pride in their individualism. All practiced in an elegant and modest way.

One, that like mepadi, stands for quality, style and authenticity.

Shooting with Armani for Vanity Fair

ARMANI Some weeks ago I went to the Armani office here in Milan for a project that they are doing with Vanity Fair USA. Me and other bloggers had the chance to choose some clothes from the new collection. Afterwards we did some pictures around Porta Genova. I also had the chance to meet Shea and her boyfriend Matteo that were in Milan for some days. I had a great morning and a lot of fun!

I hope more pictures will soon be on http://dressingthebest.armani.com/  and if you want you can also submit your pictures on the Vanity Fair page :)

Project with One Shoot Channel

ONE SHOOT CHANNEL My photographer friend Esmeck Simoes Netto and I are working together on a project with a online streaming tv called ONE SHOOT CHANNEL. I'm the Director, my work is to film the shootings and of course edit it. If I don't film then I just control the video before we give it forward to the channel. The first video was with Talita Politta, a Brazilian model that was living in Milan for a while. This video is only about her, but if you check out the channel you will also get to know her a bit better.

DIRK BIKKEMBERGS Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 13/14

DIRK BIKKEMBERGS was close to Parco Sempione on Monday morning. The collection was very sporty, I would even say that it was a glamorous sportswear. Nice and bright colors like emerald green, lavender, egg yolk yellow, camel (yes I googled to know exactly what color it was!!). I'm not a fan of sportswear but since he combined everything I liked it pretty much, except of the weird sunglasses (!) - wonder who would wear?

DAKS Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 13/14

DAKS was one of my favorites show too during Fashion Week. It was close to Duomo (city center). The english brand designed by Filippo Scuffi made the guys look great. He said that the wardrobe would be of an gentlemen of the London of 1900. He used big patterns, long coats, slim trousers and the cloaks with capes that I loved a lot. As you can see in the pictures (my favorites) the colors were blue, gray, mustard yellow and dark brown. Some very nice colors for winter, especially the mustard yellow.

BURBERRY PRORSUM Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 13/14

BURBERRY PRORSUM Burberry was amazing! I was very excited for the show because it was my first time attending Burberry and being the Men Collection was even better since I love men clothes. I like to draw Men and I'm always afraid to exaggerate or be more creative because I don't want it to look weird or not wearable. But Burberry did a great job this season, the shoes had leopard prints, such as the coats, the bags.... Zebra prints, hearts! I just fell in love with the whole collection. The boys looked amazingly british ( :D ), especially with Charlie France and Alexander Beck

COSTUME NATIONAL Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 13/14

COSTUME NATIONAL was my first Fashion Show to attend back in January 2010. After that show I kind of knew that I wanted to be in this world. The menswear always takes place in via Tortona, near the station Porta Genova. This collection was called "Angry Young Men" as you can see on the moodboard (1st picture). The Designer Ennio Capasa explains that the inspiration came from the 60s. It's about the anger from the generation back then and he thinks that there is something like this today. He says it's a collection where there is a lot of "real" clothes for "real people". Well, I can only agree... as a woman I would looooove to wear the jackets/coats and have that amazing bag. It's like 3 bags together... just awesome! Also got to see again Miles McMillan that got a fringe for the show. Just check out the pictures and you will see ;)

CORNELIANI Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 13/14

CORNELIANI was the first show this season. It was held just beside my apartment, so I could get up a bit later and be there a bit earlier then usual. I love the Fashion Shows in the morning because they always have a huge buffet with orange juices, coffee, brioche and sweeeets. Thats something makes the day start very good... The show started almost on time and I LOVED the show, especially because there were only goooooood models such as David Agbodji, RJ King, Alexandre Cunha, Clement Chabernaud, Alexander Beck, Adrian Cardoso and my friend Laurin Krausz. Corneliani is known for  it's suits and there was also a lot of knitwear, sweaters, coats and leather jacket. The colors went from grey to red and black to beige. I loved it... Probably every guy would would look handsome in a Corneliani suit :)

Milan Fashion Week: Models Day 3 & 4

Nicolas & Alessandro Hasni
3/5 Hello followers. Day 3 (9th of Jan.) was Armani day! The girls and I first walked the completely wrong direction, we ended up going to Montenapoleone instead of Porta Genova... But at the end we managed to arrive at the Armani casting. It was full like always, even though the guys are on request. I guess Armani just wants to see all of them... I would do the same :)
Some of my friends were there and also people I met one year ago or in june. Here are some pics of the guys that were nice to pose for me after the Casting.
Yesterday night was the Independent Men party that was a lot of fun. And I got to meet Corey Baptiste again and got to take a picture cause he owed me one... he's number 10 in the Top 50 on models.com!
